Wax has been used as a matting agent of coatings, simple to use. After the construction of the paint, due to the solvent evaporation, the wax in the paint precipitates and forms microscopic crystals, floating on the surface of the paint, forming a layer of scattered light of the rough surface and play the role of matting. The add of polymer wax as matting agents is 0.5-3%, which is suitable for acrylic, alkyd, nitro and polyurethane paints, industrial baking paints, vinyl paints and latex paints. The polymer wax and fumed silica together can make the paint performance more perfect, and its matting effect, water resistance, chemical resistance, scratch resistance, abrasion resistance and interlayer adhesion are significantly improved. Polyethylene wax is a low molecular weight polyethylene homopolymer or copolymer that is widely used in coatings. The main roles of polyethylene wax in solvent-based coating films are: matting, anti-sedimentation, thixotropy, good lubrication and processability, and metal positioning. The addition of micronized polyethylene wax to the coating should avoid high temperatures, because polyethylene wax dissolves at high temperatures and precipitates on cooling to form larger particles. The role of polyethylene wax depends on: species specification, particle fineness, ability to migrate to the surface layer of the coating and the composition of the coating, type of substrate, construction application method, etc. As an additive, polyethylene wax is used in solvent-based coatings and inks as well as in water-based coatings and inks.
