The Role of Fischer-Tropsch Wax in PVC

Posted on 2021-05-08
Fischer-Tropsch wax is an inert polymer with low viscosity, high softening point, high melting point and excellent lubricating properties, which is widely used in industrial production. For example, in the injection molding, extrusion and pelletizing industries, Fischer-Tropsch waxes are used in the production of masterbatches and modified plastics to help disperse fillers and provide excellent slip in the mixing process. Fischer-Tropsch wax can be used as an external lubricant for PVC, and its low viscosity can improve the production speed of the product and help the dispersion of the filler when mixing. Compared with paraffin wax, PE wax and other lubricants, Fischer-Tropsch wax has high melting point (generally higher than 85℃), narrow melting point range, low oil content, low needle penetration, low migration rate, very low melt viscosity, high stability and hardness, wear resistance and other characteristics. It can provide long time and high stable lubrication effect with low addition amount. Effectively reduce processing torque, reduce production energy consumption and improve production efficiency. The degree of aging resistance and product surface material properties are significantly improved. Fischer-Tropsch wax has good compatibility with PVC and is competent as both internal and external lubricant. It can be used as a good internal lubricant to effectively control shear conditions, promote flow, control friction and melt properties, thus improving thermal stability. At the same time, Fischer-Tropsch waxes give the best physical and processing properties to PVC products due to their high crystallinity and high linearity structure. Fischer-Tropsch process can synthesize alkanes of different chain lengths to change the molecular weight of the final product and form a series of products.
