Application of polytetrafluoroethylene powder in engineering plastics. Polytetrafluoroethylene is a fluorine-containing material with excellent comprehensive performance. Engineering plastics modified by polytetrafluoroethylene are mainly used in high-end applications. With the continuous improvement of social demand, the market potential of this part of products is huge.

Polytetrafluoroethylene has excellent properties in terms of temperature resistance, radiation resistance, aging resistance, insulation, flame retardancy, anti-sticking, self-lubrication, etc., and has been widely used in many fields.

Using the excellent properties of polytetrafluoroethylene to implement blending modification on engineering plastics can achieve complementary advantages, further improve the performance of engineering plastics, and expand its application areas.

The modification of engineering plastics by polytetrafluoroethylene blending modifiers mainly focuses on two aspects: anti-friction lubrication and anti-drip flame retardancy.

1. Anti-friction lubricant:
Most engineering plastics have a high surface friction coefficient, and external lubricants are required in sliding friction occasions, which limits the application of engineering plastics in occasions where external lubricants are not allowed. PTFE has extremely low surface energy and excellent self-lubricating properties. By blending PTFE with engineering plastics, oil-free lubricating composite materials with low surface friction coefficient can be prepared.
2. Anti-drip agent:
With the continuous expansion of the application field of engineering plastics, its products are divided into three categories: pure powder type, emulsion type and coated type.
A. Pure powder type:
Pure powder anti-drip agent is pure PTFE particles. By sintering the surface of the particles, the dispersibility and fluidity of PTFE are improved. When the anti-drip agent is pre-mixed with the plastic, it can show good dispersibility and avoid premature fiberization. The advantage of pure powder anti-drip agent is that the content of PTFE is 100%, no other impurities are introduced, and a relatively large amount can be added.
B. Emulsion type:
The emulsion anti-drip agent is to disperse PTFE in water under the action of a dispersant to make a PTFE dispersion emulsion. Since the emulsion contains a lot of water, the requirements for equipment and technology are relatively high when using it. Affected by this, domestic engineering plastic modification manufacturers in my country use less emulsion anti-drip agents.

C. Coating type:

Coating anti-drip agents are to coat a layer of polymer on the outside of polytetrafluoroethylene particles to make them have better dispersibility during mixing with plastic resins.

Compared with pure powder and emulsion anti-drip agents, coated anti-drip agents have the advantages of good dispersibility, easy use, no agglomeration at room temperature, easy storage, no crystal points on the surface of the product, and high surface finish. However, the polymer coated on the outer layer is an impurity for the final product, which will have a certain impact on the performance of the product.
