Matte finishes are widely used in modern interior and industrial paints for their elegant, non-reflective appearance and soft-touch texture. However, formulating a matte coating that is also resistant to scratches, dirt, and blocking requires specialized additives. One highly effective ingredient is wax emulsion.
Wax emulsion is a water-based dispersion of finely distributed wax particles, such as polyethylene, paraffin, or natural carnauba wax. These wax particles, typically ranging from 0.1 to 1 micron, are stabilized by surfactants and remain well-dispersed in waterborne paint formulations.
When the paint film dries, the wax particles migrate to the surface and form a micro-layer that modifies gloss, friction, and surface behavior.
