When to add wax dispersion for water-based wood paint

Wax dispersion is a common coating ink additives. The most commonly used species in solvent-based system is micronized wax, whose material type is generally polyethylene wax and PTFE wax, which mainly plays the role of scratch and abrasion resistance, but also has the characteristics of improved feel, anti-adhesion, anti-stick stain and water resistance. Another important type is solvent-based wax dispersion, whose material type is generally amide wax, polyethylene oxide wax and water-based wax. The main role of amide wax and polyethylene oxide wax dispersion is rheology control such as anti-sink and anti-sag, and the main role of water-based wax dispersion is aluminum powder orientation.

In waterborne coating systems, waterborne waxes are mainly used as additives in the form of solid waterborne micronized waxes and liquid wax emulsions and waterborne wax dispersions.

The main advantage of aqueous micronized waxes is that they do not contain emulsifiers and have no effect on the water resistance of the coating ink after film formation. The main disadvantage is that the dispersion in aqueous systems has high technical condition requirements and the ease of application is poor.

The advantages of wax emulsions and wax dispersions are easy to use, many product specifications, and a wide range of choices. The disadvantage is that the matching relationship with the ph value and ionicity of the water-based resin system should be fully considered, and the shelf life of the wax emulsions and wax dispersions and the high and low temperature resistance of storage and transportation should be taken into account.

With the development of society, the demand for wax in ink and coating is getting higher and higher, because the ordinary wax and wax emulsion contain emulsifier, which will affect the performance of ink. Tanshi wax dispersion added to the ink can improve the smoothness, abrasion resistance and scratch resistance of the ink.

After the water based wax dispersion is added to the ink, it drifts to the surface of the coating film in the process of film formation and is evenly dispersed to form a protective layer of wax on the coating film. With good particle size distribution, the product has good water resistance, chemical resistance and mechanical properties, and also has superior anti-friction properties.
