The increase in the density of inorganic substances and the viscosity-reducing effect of the hydrophilic wetting and dispersing agent cause sedimentation problems. Hydrating thickeners can solve this problem, but they also bring about leveling and water resistance problems. So far we can point out that the bottleneck of coating preparation is how to control the continuous phase—water.

The adsorption capacity of inorganic pigments and fillers on the dispersant is related to the oil absorption, which depends on the specific surface area, which is in turn related to the density and particle size. The size of the oil absorption of pigment and filler particles is related to the specific surface area of the particles. An increase in the specific surface area will lead to an increase in oil absorption; it is related to the porosity between pigment and filler particles, and a decrease in porosity will result in a decrease in oil absorption; , The shape of the filler is related, the needle-shaped particles absorb more oil than the spherical particles (the needle-shaped specific surface area and gaps are larger).
