Water-based coating matting agent: Water-based coatings do not use volatile organic solvents, and are widely valued by the coatings industry. In the late 1990s, after foreign products entered our country, domestic water-based coatings developed rapidly, with improved quality, reduced costs, and increased market share. [11] For water-based coatings, dry hydrated silica matting agents are not very suitable. Because the micron-sized synthetic silica matting agent is a porous substance with strong water absorption capacity, it will absorb the water as a diluent in the water-based paint, which will change the proportion of the paint components, and the stability of the base material particles will become poor, causing the base The material particles flocculate, which affects the continuity of the coating film and deteriorates the quality of the coating film.

The W-type matting agent developed by Grace is a hydrogel-type silica matting agent with a water content of 55% and a pore volume of 1.2mL/glI2 after drying. The appearance is still a fluid white powder, which is easy to add and has strong wettability. Easy to disperse, no water absorption, no bubbles, and the particle size distribution does not change after drying. Although the pore volume of the W-type matting agent is small, the surface of the coating film shrinks due to the volatilization of water when the water-based paint is dried, and the matting is relatively easy, so it is an ideal matting agent for the water-based paint.

Matting agent for coil coating: Coil coating is drying type coating. In order to reduce the drying temperature and shorten the drying time, sulfonic acids with different structures (such as p-toluenesulfonic acid) are added as catalysts. Generally, the pH value of 5% suspension of synthetic silica matting agent is 6~8, which has adsorption effect on sulfonic acid catalyst. The Syloid C807 and C809 developed by Grace Company overcome this shortcoming. The pH of its aqueous suspension is about 3.5, which does not adsorb acid catalysts and will not affect the drying time of the coil coating. In addition to the difference in pH value, the binding volume of C807 and C809 also increased from 1.8mL/g to 2.0mL/g, and the particle size distribution is narrow, the dispersion is easy, the extinction efficiency is high, and the amount of addition is reduced, which has a great impact on the physical and chemical properties of the coating. The negative impact is small.
