Paraffin has different protective effects in different types of reclaimed rubber products

Paraffin wax is a typical physical antioxidant in the production of rubber products. The rubber compound is dissolved in the reclaimed rubber during high temperature mixing and vulcanization. After the vulcanization is cooled, a wax solution is formed inside the rubber compound, and a film is formed after migrating from the inside to the surface to hinder ozone. Contact with reclaimed rubber products to improve the ozone resistance of the products. In actual production, paraffin has different protective effects at different temperatures. Not all reclaimed rubber products can use paraffin as a physical antiozonant. Why?

Paraffin plays a protective role in reclaimed rubber products and is related to its migration speed from the interior to the surface. The main reason that affects the migration speed of paraffin is temperature. Different types of reclaimed rubber products use different ambient temperatures, so paraffin has different protective effects. wax for used in lubricating granules in crumb rubber

1. The lower the temperature, the slower the paraffin migration. The test shows that when the ambient temperature is 0 ℃, the high carbon number alkyl group has poor fluidity and cannot migrate to the surface of the hb reclaimed rubber product at low temperature, and only the alkyl group with smaller carbon number such as C18-C26 migrates to the surface of the reclaimed rubber product; At -10 °C, the wax film formed by the linear alkanes with low carbon numbers migrated to the surface of the reclaimed rubber product has poor compactness, so the protection effect on ozone is poor.

2. When the ambient temperature reaches 45-55 ℃, the solubility of paraffin in the reclaimed rubber increases, and the paraffin that migrates from the inside to the surface of the reclaimed rubber product decreases, and a perfect wax film cannot be formed. In addition, the paraffin at high temperature is easy to melt. , resulting in a decrease in ozone resistance of reclaimed rubber products.

3. Usually, the best use temperature of the film formed by the migration of paraffin from the inside of the reclaimed rubber compound to the surface is 10-50 ℃, which is within the range of ozone destructive ability, so a good protective effect can be obtained.

The effect of paraffin wax at different temperatures is different, and the operating temperature and ambient temperature of the use environment in the production process of different types of reclaimed rubber products are very different. Therefore, rubber product manufacturers need to decide whether to use reclaimed rubber products according to the actual use environment of the product. paraffin. Due to the low melting point of paraffin wax, the scope of use in reclaimed rubber products has certain limitations. Therefore, in actual production, rubber product manufacturers can also choose rubber protective wax composed of paraffin wax and microcrystalline wax (high melting point).

Reclaimed rubber is a product processed from waste rubber products. It can significantly reduce the cost of raw materials by replacing natural rubber and synthetic rubber to produce rubber products; choosing appropriate types of paraffin wax/protective wax for rubber as a physical antiozonant can improve the ozone resistance of reclaimed rubber products. It can further prolong the service life of reclaimed rubber products and is an important part of expanding the scope of reclaimed rubber.
