The role of matting wax

Matting wax is mainly used in leather and paint, through a series of physical reactions, to achieve the effect of reducing the gloss. The matting agent is a little more extensive, and the commonly used matting agents are ultra-fine silica, talc, aluminum stearate, calcium stearate, low molecular thermoplastic resin, etc. To get the matting effect, the following methods can be used.

a, the curing speed of different powder coatings, with dry mixing method for mixing, then the resulting coating film gloss significantly decreased, to play a matting effect. Due to the high reactivity of the powder coating quickly cured, so that the continuous phase of curing slower resin leveling and reaction is hindered, a good final curing coating film to lose gloss. Although this method is effective, but increase the manufacturing process and cost.

b. Adding thermoplastic resin. In the epoxy powder coating add cellulose acetate, in the polyester powder coating add fine powdered low molecular weight polyethylene, polypropylene resin can get matte powder coating. The gloss of the coating film is affected by the manufacturing conditions. Because the addition of thermoplastic resin will affect the storage stability of the powder coating, so the amount of addition is limited to 23% of the amount of resin.

c. Use special curing agent with matting effect.

d. Add filler with matting effect. Add ultra-fine silica, talc and other fillers make a significant decline in gloss. In particular, the particle size of the filler has a great impact on the gloss of the coating film. The larger the particle size, the lower the luster. It is important to note that increasing the amount of filler will make the flatness and mechanical strength of the coating film decreased. In acrylic, polyester powder coatings add ultra-fine silica and kaolin can get matte coating. In addition, adding polyethylene paraffin, hydrogenated castor oil and other waxes can also get matting coatings.
