How to deal with water-based ink wastewater?

Water-based inks are commonly used inks in printing books, printing magazines, food packaging, paper packaging and other industries. But there is a problem that plagues the printing industry and the packaging industry, and even more so for water-based ink manufacturers – water-based ink wastewater. In our water-based ink wastewater treatment project, how to solve the water-based ink wastewater?

Water-based ink waste water

The water-based ink wastewater in the printing industry and packaging industry mainly comes from the cleaning process of printing equipment, additives to improve the oppacity in water based paint and the water-based ink wastewater from water-based ink production enterprises mainly comes from ink production and equipment cleaning. This kind of industrial wastewater has the characteristics of high color, high concentration, difficult to biodegrade, and complex composition. These characteristics make the treatment of this kind of wastewater more difficult.

When we tested the water-based ink wastewater, we learned that the COD concentration was 18,000 mg/L, the chromaticity was about 10,000 times, and the SS concentration was about 600 mg/L. It contains a large amount of pigments, which leads to high chroma, and contaminants such as acrylic resins, chemical additives, and dissolved carriers lead to high concentrations and complex compositions.

According to the source and characteristics of water-based ink, an ink manufacturer in Zhongshan adopted the following wastewater treatment process. If you like it, you can like, follow, and favorite.

Water-based ink wastewater treatment

The combination of pretreatment and biochemical treatment is a commonly used method in wastewater treatment projects.

①Pretreatment

The pretreatment adopts the combination of coagulation air flotation method and iron-carbon micro-electrolysis method, mainly to reduce the indicators such as chroma, COD and suspended solids in the water-based ink wastewater, improve the biodegradability of the water-based ink wastewater and carry out decolorization treatment. These two methods can effectively achieve the effect of pretreatment in the actual operation process, which is beneficial to the subsequent biochemical treatment.

②Biochemical treatment

Biochemical treatment adopts a combination of anaerobic biological treatment and aerobic biological treatment, mainly through the action of microorganisms to reduce the COD concentration in water-based ink wastewater. Anaerobic biological treatment is a hydrolysis acidification tank, and aerobic biological treatment is a biological contact oxidation method, which has the characteristics of high efficiency, stability and impact resistance in the actual operation process.

After the above-mentioned treatment of water-based ink waste water, the COD concentration is below 70mg/L, and the chromaticity is about 30 times, which meets the local discharge standard.
