Application of DABCO T-12

2021-11-17   Pageview:667

Adding a small amount (0.2% by weight) of T-12 to two-component PU paints, such as furniture and automotive paints, will shorten the drying time of the paint surface to the touch, which will greatly reduce the dust staying or accumulating on the paint surface and increase the aesthetics of the paint surface. It also speeds up the curing time and shortens the drying time of the lacquer, so the real hardness of the lacquer will be shown soon.

The feeding sequence and method of the thickener have a certain influence on its thickening effect, generally as follows:

The cellulose thickener can be in powder form. It is added slowly while stirring before the pigment and filler grinding and dispersing stage. It can also be added slowly into the water while stirring, first to make a solution, and then add it after the emulsion before the pigment and filler grinding and dispersion stage or in the paint let-down stage.
Alkali swelling thickeners and associative thickeners should be stirred evenly before use. Generally, they are added in the paint mixing stage, and some can be added after being diluted appropriately. ③Inorganic thickeners can be added immediately following pigments and fillers during the grinding and dispersing stage of pigments and fillers.
Complex type organometallic compound thickeners are added in the final stage of paint letting down.

Covering polymers have been introduced to the coating industry since the late 1970s. Due to their unique mechanism of action, they can maintain the balance between coating hiding power and resistance. While obtaining the best physical properties of the coating, it can optimize performance and price. Therefore, covering polymers have been widely used in the coating industry. Relevant data shows that in the use of white pigments, the amount of covering polymer is second only to titanium dioxide.

The covering polymer is a non-film-forming water-based wax emulsion polymer with a spherical hollow structure. Its shell is a polymer with a high glass transition temperature composed of acrylate/styrene, with an average particle size of 0.4~1.0pm. Covering polymers are supplied as emulsions, but they are more similar to pigments in terms of function. They can provide cover, which can reduce the cost of raw materials, at the same time, they do not participate in film formation, and large-scale use will lead to a decrease in gloss. Although they are pigments, there is no need to use more dispersants because they are supplied in emulsion form.
